Summer Hot Tub Tips!

We get a LOT of questions about maintaining your hot tub in the summer and we've created this email to help you get the most of out your hot tub all summer. If you have questions about summertime hot tub maintenance please email me your questions, we're always happy to help you find ways to enjoy your Jacuzzi® in all seasons.

#1: Use Your Noodle

Your hot tub does not have a way to cool itself in the summer, so it's very likely that during the day as our ambient temperatures increase you will have excess heat building up inside the hot tub, increasing your water temperature to an uncomfortably hot degree. If you have a small piece of foam like a swim noodle, create a 1" spacer and slip that under your cover near the center seam and this creates a small air gap that will give that hot air a place to escape instead of being contained under the cover. It's so simple but it makes such a big impact in helping you maintain a comfortable water temp when it gets hot outside

#2: Remove Organic Build Up

We all know that mold and mildew can be an issue in hot tubs and it's the worst in the summer. Mold and mildew thrive on organic material so be extra diligent about wiping away residues that build up on those areas ABOVE the waterline, around your diverters, under your headrests, etc. Clean the underside of your cover too. If you want to make a diluted bleach solution using 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, you can spray that in those nooks and crannies to kill off any mold and prevent unwanted odors and mildew. We also love the Ahh-some Cleaner & Deodorizer Spray for a natural and super effective solution.

#3: Be Realistic Regarding Water Temps

Since your hot tub can't cool itself, we need to be realistic in what we set our temps in the summer. Too much of a heat discrepancy will cause issues with clarity because your hot tub won't circulate properly if it senses a 2+ degree disparity between your actual temp and your set temp. We suggest setting your hot tub in the summer to 95-98 degrees, which feels really nice...but when it's 99 degrees outside, there's no way your hot tub will be 80 degrees (unless you add a bunch of ice cubes)!

#4: Consider Adding An Umbrella or Pergola

If there's any way you can created a shaded area for your hot tub you will surely be able to maintain a lower water temp (and avoid sun burns)! We sell a fantastic umbrella that can pivot and create shade above and beside your hot tub. Other great ideas include adding a sun sail or pergola. You can see temps under the shaded area 10-15 degrees cooler than out in the direct sun...this also helps your hot tub cover last longer!
